Mr. Johnson has been performing computer forensics for 23 years. He was a Kansas City, Missouri police officer and sergeant for 14 years. He established the Computer Crimes Section for the police department in 2001. Mr. Johnson subsequently taught for Guidance Software, the makers of EnCase, a popular computer forensic software program.
He went on to work for the United States Attorney's Office - Western District of Missouri, where he was assigned to the FBI's Heart of America Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory for 16 years, first as an examiner, then as a team leader. He has provided training for the FBI, participated in their Moot Court process on a number of occasions, and has been an instructor since 2002 for the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS), a world-wide training organization that teaches forensic skills to law enforcement and private sector examiners.
Mr. Johnson has performed computer forensic analysis in over 800 cases, both civil and criminal. Outside of his law enforcement career he was a Director at Grant Thornton, in the Economic Advisory group, working forensic cases. Most recently, he was a Senior Vice-President in the Cyber Risk group at Kroll Inc.
Mr. Johnson was on the IACIS Board of Directors for four years and holds several certifications, including the IACIS Certified Forensic Computer Examiner or CFCE.
